  • 2C Silicone • Automotive Industry

The number and complexity of electronic applications in the automotive sector are constantly increasing. Their long-term performance and reliability pose great challenges to automotive developers and designers. CHT's silicone elastomers offer such sensitive electronic protection and can also have a performance enhancing effect.

  • 2C Silicone • Electronic Industry

The materials used for electronic protection are typically silicones, epoxy resins, polyurethanes and various other polymers. CHT silicones in particular are excellent for electronic components because they are durable and have crucial physical properties that support the long-term performance of the electronics. In addition, silicones are extremely flexible in design and manufacturing processes.

  • 2C Silicone • Potting and Encapsulants

Silicone potting compounds and encapsulants are used where deep section curing is required. They withstand extreme temperatures while protecting electronic components from shock and vibration, moisture and other atmospheric contaminants. These silicones range in hardness from a gel-like consistency to a hard rubber.

  • 2C Silicone • Thermal / Heat Dissipation

Most electronic components generate heat when in use. Unwanted heat has to be dissipated from components to maintain performance and avoid premature component or device failure. The need for efficient heat transfer has become a key design requirement as components continue to reduce in size and increase in power. This is particularly apparent with microchip processors, LEDs and power supplies. The choice of an appropriate heat transfer compound will depend on thermal conductivity, mechanical stress, environment and production methods. Within the SILCOTHERM® range there is a wide selection of references to meet these needs.

Protection of electronic components

Silicone protects components from vibration, aggressive environments and thermal stress. Silicone products are low viscosity and can be applied manually or by automatic dispensing stations, allowing the mixing ratio to be controlled.

Curing is generally done at room temperature over a period of 24 hours. However, some silicones can have an accelerated polymerisation by heating, the setting time is then reduced to a few minutes.

The advantage of two-component silicones is that they can coat electronic housings with a significant thickness.
